My wife Laurie and I grew up in King County and have lived in the City of Shoreline for nine years. I have served the City of Shoreline as a volunteer on the Planning Commission for five years, including one year as Vice Chair and currently as Chair. I listen to the community for ideas about how Shoreline can enhance neighborhood character and protect the natural environment as the city grows and develops.
My work in the region has earned me a reputation as a leader in local government. I've worked for Snohomish County for ten years. My current position is a Legislative Analyst for the County Council. Before that, I was the county’s planning manager, and before that, I supervised watershed planning and natural resource preservation programs.
A former high school teacher, I am still actively involved with education. I recently helped Western Washington University and Everett Community College launch a partnership that will offer new 4-year degree programs in environmental planning and environmental science through the University Center of North Puget Sound. In the 1990s, I worked for the University of Washington to streamline administrative functions and make the University more efficient and responsive.
Laurie and I are actively involved with volunteer work, and also active in the outdoors with hiking, camping, skiing, and scuba diving. I have served as a volunteer board member of non-profit organizations including The Society for Ecological Restoration and The Coastal Society.
